  • Greek manuscripts

The New Testament is the most well-documented written material from the first century. Several thousand manuscript copies of New Testament books exist. Because these were copied by hand, there are slight differences (variants) between manuscripts. (Study Bibles usually list the differences. Most variants are in spelling and place names, and none affect Christian doctrine.) Manuscripts fall into groups, called text-types.
